In honor of the International Women’s Day on March 8, 2018, the City Government of Biñan through Biñan City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO) headed by Mr. BJ Borja launched the “1st Gawad sa Natatanging Kababaihang Biñanense 2018” at People’s Center Auditorium. The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) has announced that the 2018 National Women’s Month celebration will have the theme “We Make Change Work For Women.” This month aims to celebrate the achievements of women in diverse fields and recognize their contributions in our society. One of the recipients of the award was Dr. Encarnacion A. Alzona, a National Scientist, suffragette, the First Filipina PhD Holder and a premier historia, and to commemorate her life and works, the City Government of Biñan unveiled a local historical marker in front of the City Hall. Local Chief Executive Atty. Walfredo R. Dimaguila, Vice Mayor Angelo Alonte and Congresswoman Len Alonte-Naguiat led the wreath laying to Rizal Monument, along with the members of the City Council and Kababaihan awardees. Other awardees were Maria Evangelista Carpena, Justice Milagros German, Doña Teodora Alonso, Felicitas Karunungan Jimenez, Precious Lara Quigaman-Alcaraz, Herminia Batista Roman, Leonida Bayani Ortiz, Justice Josefina Guevara Salonga and Congresswoman Len Alonte-Naguiat who evinced exemplary contributions in the fields of law, art, media arts, medicine, international service and government service.
