As part of the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW) with the theme: “VAW-free Community Starts with Me,” the City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Ms. Adora Pascual conducted an orientation and organized group of men employees to be part of Men Opposed VAW Everywhere (MOVE) on December 14, 2017 at Senior Citizen Hall, Brgy. Zapote, City of Biñan. “Kayo po ang makakaakibat at makakatuwang namin upang maiwaksi na talaga ang karahasan sa mga kababaihan,” Ms. Pascual said. Republic Act 9262 also known as the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004” refers to any act or series of acts committed by any person against a woman who is his wife, former wife, or against a woman with whom the person has or had a sexual or dating relationship, or with whom he has a common child, or against her child whether legitimate or illegitimate, within or without the family abode, which result in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering, or economic abuse including threats of such acts, battery, assault, coercion, harassment or arbitrary deprivation of liberty. MOVE is an organization of men who committed themselves to be actively involved in the elimination of VAW. It specifically seeks to speak out against VAW; examine, propose and formulate total male involvement and actions in the elimination of VAW; form partnerships and linkages with similar groups working on VAW, locally and internationally; organize and conduct researches, studies and fora in recognition of the social effects of VAW for policy and program development; and establish resource network on VAW. The City of Biñan is capacitating more men in the city, who do not only detest VAW, but who are also willing to pro-actively campaign and work towards its eradication.more photos
