The City of Biñan celebrates the 100th Birth Anniversary of our National Scientist, Dr. Dioscoro L. Umali on November 17, 2017 at Sentrong Pangkultura ng Biñan, Brgy. Poblacion. In line with this occasion, a memorial service was made and initiated by Biñan Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO) supervised by Mr. BJ Borja. Known as “Father of Philippine Plant Breeding,” Dr. Umali was also an educator research organizer, development administrator, science statesman and a Biñanense. As a scientist, he is best known for plant breeding. He was conferred the High Honor of Order of National Scientist in 1986 by Pres. Corazon C.
