Improving the nutrition in CALABARZON cannot be achieved by spoon-feeding alone nor by the generosity of a single sector’s spoon. It requires collaboration in creating and recreating ideas; seeking unity and totality of approach toward nutrition adequacy for all stakeholders in the region. Succeeding the auspicious assessment last July, the City of Biñan was conferred with the Green Banner Award being the most Outstanding City in the Region by the National Nutrition Council CALABARZON (NNC IV-A) during the 2017 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony on December 04, 2017 at I’m Hotel, Makati City. After receiving the Seal of Good Local Governance, the dynamic local chief executive, Atty. Walfredo R. Dimaguila, Jr. personally accepted the Green Banner Award for the second time from NNC IV-A Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Hon. Carina Santiago. In accepting the award, Mayor Arman recognized the hard work and diligence of Nutrition Action Officer Isidora Alias, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Adora Pascual, City Population Officer Maria Bonacua, City Health Officer Dr. Mirabelle Benjamin, City Information Officer Roman Carencia and members of the City Council who were also present in the said event to witness the aftermath of effective implementation of nutrition programs, projects, and activities in the City of Life. For performing the best practices, Brgy. San Antonio headed by Hon. Allan Farcon received the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award as the Most Outstanding Barangay in the Region for three consecutive years. Moreover, Rowena Conde, from the same barangay, was awarded with City Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar. Last July, as we celebrate the National Nutrition Month, the members of the NNC and Communicators’ Network for Nutrition (CNN) IV-A assessed the City Hall’s Canteen, San Vicente Elementary School, Lina’s Canteen and Vivian’s Restaurant; ensuring that healthy and nutritious menu options on a daily basis is offered. They also evaluate the efficient and effective management of the city and barangay nutrition programs to improve the situation of children and their families in the community. On his speech, Mayor Arman said and we quote, “Normally, kung nasaan ang pamilyang mahihirap naroon ang malnourished na mga bata.” He is known to value and support nutrition programs such as supplementary feeding and milk-letting, proper education on healthy food preparation and so on. He also promoted ‘Pinggang Pinoy’ and the ‘Ten Kumainments’ of DOH to eliminate the number of malnutrition in the city. “Kinakailangan natin mag-invest sa human development ibig sabihin ‘yung nutrition ang dapat nating unahin. Kasama ang ating Congresswoman Len Alonte, Vice Mayor Gel Alonte at buong Sangguniang Panlunsod ipapakita natin na ang pamahalaan ay handa pong i-extend pa ang ating serbisyo. Hindi tayo magpapabaya at asahan ninyo na marami pa tayong gagawin,” Mayor Arman added. The Green Banner Award is the highest honor given to local government units (LGUs) with excellent implementation and management of nutritional programs. The City Government of Biñan targets to bag the Green Banner Award for 2018 to achieve the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award. Talking about human development especially health and nutrition, Mayor Arman, Vice Mayor Gel and Representative Len are always facing the same side. The three, together with the concerned departments and employees, not only will continue but also will augment the initiated projects and will further develop superlative nutrition programs for the Biñanenses. Congratulations and continue to be nutrition champions!more photos
