The City Government of Biñan, through the City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office headed by Mr. BJ Borja, unveiled the monument of our National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal on December 18, 2017 at Biñan City Hall. Mayor Arman Dimaguila, together with the members of the City Council, led the commemoration of the said monument. This day marks the 146th anniversary of young Rizal’s departure from Biñan on December 17. Written on his diary Memorias de Un Estudiante de Manila (1878): “One day I received a letter from my sister Saturnina informing me of the arrival of steamship Tallim, which was due to take me away on a certain day. It seems that I had a premonition that I would not be back and so I went often and thoughtfully to the chapel of Nuestra Señora dela Paz y Buen Viaje. I left Biñan on the 17th of December 1871. I was nine years old. It was a Saturday, at one in the afternoon.” “Kahit po umuulan ay in-unveil natin ang orihinal na rebulto ni Dr. Jose Rizal na dating nasa Plaza, ni-repair natin ‘yun at ngayon ay ginugunita natin ang paglisan nya sa bayan ng Biñan,” Mayor Arman disclosed. The Local Chief Executive also quoted Elias, one of the famous character in Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere, “Mamamatay akong hindi nakikita ang ningning ng bukang-liwayway sa aking Bayan! Kayong makakakita, salubungin ninyo siya, at huwag kalilimutan ang mga nabulid sa dilim ng gabi.” In addition, the Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista marker was also unveiled on the same day to memorialize his 114th Death Anniversary and 187th Birth Anniversary on Decemeber 04 and 07 respectively. Also known Don Bosyong, A.R. Bautista was born in Biñan. He is a lawyer and author of the Declaration of Philippine Independence; he became the first adviser to President Emilio Aguinaldo; and he is a distant relative of the Rizal family, Bautista frequently provided advice to Philippine national hero José Rizal during his school days in Manila. Doubtlessly, sa lungsod ng Biñan, buhay ang nakaraan, sumasalubong sa hinaharap!more photos
